Suzanne established Suzanne Shenkman Designs in 2005 in response to a longtime love affair with the men’s necktie. Ever since the French invented the necktie 300 years ago it’s only been a knot around a man’s neck…Given all the vibrant colors, unusual sizes, stunning fabrics and funky styles that ties come in, she saw the tie had more potential… wrist cuffs, watch wraps, anklets, belts, tees, pet collars and even burp cloths…

The creations are built from ties from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and often adorned with vintage buttons, ribbons and beads.

Suzanne taught herself how to sew on her grandma’s Singer Fashion Mate sewing machine in 1986 and has been fashioning interesting boutique creations ever since.

These sassy items can't be found in any cheesy mall or chain store. Plus, her designs promote *recycle, reuse and repurpose.*

Suzanne holds her Bachelors in Journalism with a degree in Advertising from the University of Missouri—Columbia (Mizzou!). She also earned an MBA at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2005, she won the esteemed Olin Cup Entrepreneurial Competition at Washington University in the student division.

Suzanne’s 14 years of consumer marketing experience include time with Momentum, Nestlé Purina PetCare and BJC HealthCare plus a freelance stint for Brown Shoe Company. She has a built in focus group at home with her dogs Timmy and Maggie. Suzanne married Albert Crook (the site's webmaster) in 2006 and gave birth to their daughter, Juliette, in 2007.

When not crafting, Suzanne enjoys Ebay, hanging out with her bookclub and being woken up at all hours of the night by her baby girl.

She's also a member of a groovy group—the St. Louis Craft Mafia. Check out the Friends page to see some of their amazing talent.
